Hydration is Key

2024 is projected to be the hottest year in history, and thus, it is important to ensure that our pets stay cool during the warm summer months. At the Whisker Store, we are committed to helping you learn to become a more responsible pet owner. So, here are 3 ways to help keep your furry friends safe throughout the summer!

1. Hydration is Key

Pets are just like people! Like us, they need plenty of water to stay hydrated, especially in the heat. Ensure that pets always have access to fresh and cool water. Consider placing water bowls around your home and yard, but make sure to check frequently if they are filled. During heat waves, add ice cubes to help keep the water cool for longer

2. Prevent Overheating

Pets are especially susceptible to heatstroke, which can be fatal. To prevent this, take your pets for outdoor activities during the early morning and late evenings. Avoid the hottest parts of the day, as excess heat isn't suitable for your pets! While outside, stick to shaded areas. Avoid hot pavements because they can burn your paws. Remember, the pavement is often much hotter than the air temperature. If the pavement is too hot to touch, you should take your pets elsewhere for outdoor activities!

3. Safety in Cars

Never leave your pets in parked cars. Car temperatures can quickly rise to dangerous levels, even with cracked windows. In 30 minutes, they can be over 40 degrees higher than the outside temperature. Leave your pets at home, where they are safe and cool!
